Clinical Peel

Clinical peels Melbourne

There are a number of factors that affect the appearance of your skin, including the environment, lifestyle habits and general ageing. To improve the texture and overall appearance of the skin, peels remove the upper layer in order to get rid of dead and damaged skin cells.

As the chemicals in the peel get to work on the skin, it gradually peels off the upper layer, which activates the skin’s healing process and reveals a fresh, rejuvenated layer of skin. Skin peels are available in light to medium strengths, which can be used to treat a variety of concerns, including general discolouration, wrinkles, sun damage, scaly patches and acne.

Clinical Skin Peels: What patients need to know.

It’s important to remember that every individual is unique and so too are their needs and desired outcomes for cosmetic surgery. If you’re considering a procedure, it’s essential to have a comprehensive consultation with one of our experienced surgeons. They can help you understand whether you’re a suitable candidate and what you can realistically expect from the surgery. The information provided here is meant to help guide you, but it’s not a replacement for professional medical advice. Always organise a consultation for personalised advice.

If you are concerned about the way you look or are thinking about cosmetic surgery for confidence reasons, there are alternatives. Talking to a
counsellor or psychologist may help you overcome your concerns about your appearance.

  • Fair-skinned patients are better candidates. People with fair skin and light hair tend to benefit more from skin peels. Patients with darker skin can still receive skin peels but uneven skin tone is more likely

  • One skin peel may be enough to achieve healthier skin. The number of peels that will be required will depend on the severity of the damage. Most patients can expect an 80% improvement after just one peel if they opt for the Doctor-Strength TCA peel. For all other peels, 3 – 6 treatments will be required

  • Mild redness and swelling can be expected. Most patients can expect mild redness, discomfort and swelling for several days after their skin peel, which is why you may want to spend a day or two at home following your procedure.

  • Results will be visible after a week. Once the skin has healed and all of the old skin has peeled off, patients will clearly be able to see the results of their peel.

What to expect

Once it has been determined that your skin would benefit from a skin peel, your skin will be prepped and a peel will be selected based on your specific needs.

The average skin peel procedure doesn’t take longer than 15 minutes and patients are free to return to work following their treatment. However, some patients do choose to go home afterwards depending on the type of peel they have selected.

Once the peel has been applied to your skin, it will be left to take effect for several minutes. Once the peel has been removed, the top layer of skin cells may start to flake depending on the type of peel that was used. Skin peels do create a mild tingling or burning sensation but overall, treatments are not painful.

You will need to care for your skin very carefully following your peel to protect the fresh new layer from getting damaged.

All peels are safe but preparing the skin one month prior to the peel is recommended.
